The mission of VIVO Institute is to promote citizenship, by sharing values and experience with the society.

Through this Institute the company manages investments in areas of education and environment, in addition to support initiatives for social welfare and to develop the VIVO Volunteer Program, that puts together volunteer collaborators of the company for its actions. The Institute also integrates an important function: To disseminate concepts and practices for Social Responsibility for all audiences that relate with VIVO.

In 2003 the social investment from VIVO was about R$ 9 million, benefiting thousands of people in all Brazil. We must tell more about 2004 investments.

Among VIVO Institute partners, we find public and private enterprises, like Unesco, the Ethos Institute, Sao Paulo City Hall, and others.

History

VIVO Institute was established by the joint venture that operate under the VIVO brand. It is the evolution of all the work that was being developed by each Social Responsibility area from the controlling companies in Brazil—Portugal Telecom by means of the Digital Brazil Institute (IBD), and Telefónica Móviles by means of the Telefônica Foundation.

Today, VIVO Institute has activities in 86% of the Brazilian territory, being partner of large institutions, both from third sector as from public enterprises. ‘We believe these organizations have special knowledge and they are closer to the audience,” explains Joao Luis Barroso, General Director for Institutional Relations at VIVO, and supervisor of the Institute’s activities.
